Royal Raid is the first and fantastic Mauritian mountain (trail) running which will lead you in the heart of the island and make you discover unforgettable tropical sceneries; discovery, emotion and passion with local and international participants, in a marvelous friendship atmosphere!

Royal Raid consists of two races being held simultaneously:

• Royal Raid 80 (RR80) a race of 80 kms to be covered within 20hours.
• Royal Raid 35 (RR35) a race of 35 kms to be covered within 09 hours.

Hereunder a brief description of the different places of interest you will discover during the Royal Raid:

• Yemen Nature Reserve
• Black River National Park
• The sugar cane fields of Bel Ombre Sugar Estate

Yemen Nature Reserve

The first part of the 80 kms will lead you through the beautiful Yemen Nature Reserve. The scenery you will discover from dawn appears surprisingly at certain places like African savannah! This makes all of us realize that Mauritius nature is like its population: a multicultural one!

Situated between La Tourelle Mountain and Les Trois Mammelles Mountain, the domain hosts two of the four longest rivers of the island namely Rempart and Tamarin River. The name Yemen dates back the beginning of the 19th Century when Father de la Butte was its owner. The sugar activity of the domain was terminated in 1880, 30 years after absorbing some smaller domains such as Walhalla, Carsenac and Magenta. At that time, one could find on this land some cultures like Arabica coffee and aloe of which today, only the ruins of the mills remains. The actual size of the Domain is of around 4500 hectares and it is today a private nature reserve where luxurious fauna and flora can be admired during 4x4, quad or mountain bike trips. Java deer (around 9,000 on a national population of 60,000), wild boars, hares, macaque monkeys, mongoose and the fruit bats live inside the reserve. Abundant indigenous and exotic plants such as ebony, cassias, tamarind, and pink pepper are growing giving a colorful touch to the savannah and the mountains.

A spacious 4-star hotel that sets out to provide a contemporary setting that likes to be different. All the rooms, housed in a set of villas, face the sea.
